5x7 Print Size in Pixels at 300 DPI

A 5×7 print at 300 DPI is 1500×2100 pixels. It is a gift SKU, not a 2:3 poster. Crop to 5:7 around the face or product, then stamp 300 DPI.

Direct answer

A 5×7 inch print at 300 DPI is 1500×2100 pixels in portrait, or 2100×1500 in landscape. Crop the photo to a 5:7 rectangle around the subject first. 5×7 is not 4×6 (2:3) and not 8×10 (4:5). A smaller file will look soft because gift prints are viewed up close.

5×7 is the thank-you card of the print world: weddings, pets, mini shop updates. Sellers treat it as “small, so any JPEG is fine.” Viewers hold it at reading distance. 150 DPI that might pass on a hallway poster fails here.

The good news: almost any modern camera can supply 1500 pixels on the short side after crop. The bad news: 5:7 is a picky window on a face. There is not much room for hair and signature together.

Pixels, ratio, and nearby gift sizes

5 × 300 = 1500. 7 × 300 = 2100. 4×6 is 1200×1800 and is 2:3. 5×7 is 5:7 (about 1:1.4), closer to ISO A than to 4×6. Do not drop a 4×6 lab file into a 5×7 listing.

With 0.125 in bleed: 5.25×7.25 in → 1575×2175 pixels, only if the shop template includes it.

Crop tighter than you think

Pin the eyes on a portrait. 5×7 will drop shoulders that an 8×10 kept. Pin a product label, not the whole table. If the signature lives on the bottom edge of a painting, 5×7 often guillotines it — raise the pin or skip 5×7 for that piece.

The focal-point method matters more on small frames because every millimetre is a larger share of the print.

Lab prints vs Etsy 5×7

Consumer labs often auto-correct and slightly crop. Your Etsy partner usually prints the pixels you send. Do not rely on a lab to “fix” composition. Send 1500×2100, sRGB, high-quality JPG.

If you sell a 5×7 digital download, state that 1500×2100 is the file — buyers who print it at 8×10 will be disappointed. Pixel width ÷ 300 is the honest inch limit.
