Printify vs Printful File Size at 300 DPI: How to Prep Once
Both want the product template’s pixel box, usually 300 DPI for paper. Do not reuse one 8×10 JPEG across poster, canvas, and mug SKUs. Crop per template, same focal point.

Direct answer
Printify and Printful both expect you to fill their current product template — typically 300 DPI for posters and fine-art paper, often different pixels for canvas wrap and 150 DPI for some large or fabric SKUs. Prep by pinning one focal point, exporting a crop that matches each template’s width × height in pixels, and uploading that file to that SKU. A single 2400×3000 JPEG is not a universal POD file.
The internet still says “just send 300 DPI.” True, and incomplete. A Printful 18×24 poster pixel count can differ from a Printify 18×24 if bleed or safe zones differ, and it will differ from last year’s blog. Open the template every time you add a product.
You can still crop once in spirit: one pin, many custom ratios that you typed from the templates. That is faster than rebuilding composition in each dashboard.
- 1
Open the product template
Copy the pixel size and DPI.
- 2
Crop the original to that rectangle
Subject in the safe zone.
- 3
Export that exact box
sRGB JPG or PNG as specified.
- 4
Upload to that SKU only
Repeat for the other partner’s template.
What is the same
sRGB photographs as high-quality JPG. No mockups. Subject in the safe zone. Enough pixels so the shop is not upscaling. Etsy file requirements vs production files still applies — the marketplace photo is not the POD asset.
What differs
Canvas wrap inches. Poster bleed. Framed-poster inner rails. Mug wrap. Fabric PPI. Printify’s catalog and Printful’s catalog are not pixel-identical even when the marketing name matches. Download both if you sell both.
| Product type | What to match |
|---|---|
| Paper poster / art print | Trim pixels at 300 DPI, plus bleed if shown |
| Canvas | Front + wrap, DPI on the guide |
| Framed print | Visible window, not the outer frame |
| Apparel / AOP | Often 150 DPI, huge boxes |
Prep once in Reopic
Read template inches or millimetres, add them as custom ratios, pin the subject, Export Artwork at 300 DPI (or the DPI they listed). Drop each file into the matching uploader. Pro ($33 lifetime) zips folders so Printful files do not mix with Printify files.
Gooten, Prodigi, and locals
Same rule: template first. Prepare files for Printful, Gooten, or a local shop and canvas wrap cover the usual traps. If two partners disagree by 40 pixels, make two exports. Do not stretch.
FAQ: Printify vs Printful file size 300 DPI
Do Printify and Printful use the same file?+
Sometimes close, often not. Always check both templates. Canvas and frames differ more than simple posters.
What DPI does Printful want?+
Whatever that product’s guide says — commonly 300 for paper. Do not assume 300 for every fabric.
What DPI does Printify want?+
See the product file requirements. Many paper prints are 300 DPI at the listed inches.
Can I upload one 8x10 to every size variation?+
Only if every variation is 4:5 and the largest size still has enough pixels. 12×18 and 16×20 need different crops.
